چکیده

The semantic annotation of images can benefit from representations of useful concepts and the links between them as ontologies. Recently, several multimedia ontologies have been proposed in the literature as suitable knowledge models to bridge the well known semantic gap between low level features of image content and its high level conceptual meaning. Nevertheless, these multimedia ontologies are often dedicated to (or initially built for) particular needs or a particular application. Ontology matching, defined as the process of relating different heterogeneous models, we will argue, is a suitable approach to solve interoperability issues in semantic image annotation and retrieval. We propose a generic instance-based ontology matching approach, applied to an important semantic image retrieval issue: the bridging of the semantic gap by matching a multimedia ontology against a common-sense knowledge resource.

AgreementMakerLight 2.0: Towards Efficient Large-Scale Ontology Matching

Ontology matching is a critical task to realize the Semantic Web vision, by enabling interoperability between ontologies. However, handling large ontologies efficiently is a challenge, given that ontology matching is a problem of quadratic complexity. AgreementMakerLight (AML) is a scalable automated ontology matching system developed to tackle large ontology matching problems, particularly for...

An API for Multi-lingual Ontology Matching

Ontology matching consists of generating a set of correspondences between the entities of two ontologies. This process is seen as a solution to data heterogeneity in ontology-based applications, enabling the interoperability between them. However, existing matching systems are designed by assuming that the entities of both source and target ontologies are written in the same languages ( English...

IROM: Information Retrieval-Based Ontology Matching

A crucial piece of semantic web development is the creation of viable ontology matching approaches to ensure interoperability in a wide range of applications such as information integration and semantic multimedia. In this paper, a new approach for ontology matching called IROM (Information Retrieval-based Ontology Matching) is presented. This approach derives the different components of an inf...

A unified API for negotiation in multimedia middleware

The Next Generation Network (NGN) supports endto-end negotiation between NGN entities and such of other networks [16]. However, interoperability between different negotiation protocols depends on gateways and benefits of upcoming protocols cannot be utilised. We proclaim, that a multimedia middleware avoids the need for gateways by enabling the application itself to cope with different protocol...

Semantic Information Interoperability in Open Networked Systems

In open networked systems, each node shares part of its informational resources on the network and is responsible of providing an ontological description for them. To enable semantic information interoperability in networked contexts with a multitude of autonomous ontologies, appropriate matching techniques are required to determine semantic mappings between concepts of different ontologies. In...
